Tips For Selling Your Home In The Winter
Winter can be a hard time to sell your home, simply because some buyers have a hard time imagining what the home will look like in the summer. Here are a few tips to help you out…
1. Always have a clear path:
Make sure you always have a clear path from both the sidewalk and driveway to your homes entrance. Scrape the walkways to prevent ice from building up and sprinkle with salt or sand. Having a rubber mat at the front door to catch some of the water will save a huge clean up later on.
2. Let in the light:
Make sure to let in natural light. Some winter days are gloomy, pull back all blinds and curtains as well as turning on lights in each room prior to showing.
3. Turn on the heat:
Making sure your home in warm and cozy on a cold day will make the buyer feel at home. If you have a fire place light it up, allow them to picture the many Christmas’s to come.
4. Set the mood:
With Christmas on the way you will want to decorate anyways. Dress your home up so that buyers can imagine having their family Christmas there. Set the dining room table and put up your tree.
5. Put on some music:
Don’t put on stations with commercials; fill your CD player with either something soothing like Jazz or Christmas music.
6. Careful to not overpower with scents:
Some people are allergic to scents so don’t over-due it. It’s nice to have some Christmas smells like Cinnamon, just keep it light.
7. Show off your home:
Display photos of your home in the summer time so that buyers can see the landscaping. Make sure to do a good clean before your showing:
- Wash windows
- Clean out cobwebs, Dust furniture, ceiling fans blades and light fixtures
- Polish chrome faucets and mirrors
- Clean out the refrigerator, Empty trash and recycling bins
- Vacuum daily. If your carpet is plush, vacuum in one direction. Wash and wax floors
